Calling all activists, San Diego’s environment needs your help!
Join us for a hands-on workshop about California’s most powerful law, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Learn when and how to comment to make San Diego a better place for humans and wildlife. We’ll provide the tools to review projects, submit official comments, and create a successful legal challenge when necessary. Beginners welcome!
Learn how to better:
· Keep our air and water clean, protect habitats, reduce sprawl, and address climate change impacts;
· Ensure projects have fully analyzed the environmental damages they may cause;
· Understand what mitigation means and how to improve it;
· Protect at-risk species and strengthen the wildlife protections in place; and
· Join a team to help you write comments for CEQA related projects in your neighborhood’s future.
Instructors:
Jan Chatten-Brown. As environmental attorney since 1971 she was named by the Daily Journal as one of the Top 100 Women Litigators in California. She is President of the Planning and Conservation League, has taught environmental law at UCLA, and is a frequent presenter on CEQA for various education programs.
Diane Nygard. With a BA in Sociology, MEd and over 20 years of experience in transportation and extensive knowledge of its adverse impacts on our environment and quality of life, she has been directly involved in reviewing and commenting on hundreds of San Diego CEQA projects.
Renée Owens.An adjunct professor with a MS in Ecology and another in Environmental Science, she is Executive Director of the international Wild Zone Conservation League, President of Sage Wildlife environmental consultancy, and has provided expert written and public testimony for many environmental projects throughout California, the west coast, and Hawaii.
